THE LEEDS ARTIFICIAL EYE
PROJECT
REVOLUTIONISING THE MANUFACTURE OF ARTIFICIAL EYES THROUGH DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY & PRINT TECHNOLOGY
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Leeds Artificial Eye Project aims to build upon the innovative work of Chief Maxillofacial Prosthetist Mr Paul Bartlett, who developed a method of utilising digital photography to create replica of a patients unaffected eye.
The traditional method of manufacturing an artificial eye relies upon a hand painting technique that requires time & skill. Technology advances mean alternatives are now possible in order to make a more lifelike prosthesis in a faster timeframe, and that is where the Leeds Artificial Eye Project comes in....
OUR RESEARCH
We are at the forefront of artificial eye manufacturing and have multiple published papers in peer-reviewed medical journals. Our current research involves investigating colour stability during polymerisation, and an NIHR funded cross-over randomised feasibility study evaluating service provision of a digitally printed artificial eye.
